Music and Imagery Therapy
What is Music and Imagery Therapy?
Music and Imagery Therapy combines elements of talking therapy with music-listening and creative processing using art materials.
This therapy supports you to explore difficulties and challenges in your life, and also to build inner resources and strengths to enable you to manage stress and difficult situations more effectively. It may bring new insights and understanding of patterns or challenges in your life, and enhance emotional wellbeing and self-worth.
How does it work?
During a session, I will support you to select an experience to focus upon, usually from recent memory, and then together we will choose a piece of music to listen to that helps you connect more deeply with the feelings associated with this experience. Breathing awareness is used to help the process, and you are invited to express yourself creatively, while listening to the music, using materials like coloured pastels on paper. Reflecting on the experience together afterwards can allow new insights and understanding to emerge. You can use your own music, or music from my selection of music, and the music can be of any style or genre.
Who can it help?
Music and Imagery Therapy can be beneficial for a wide variety of needs, including people with anxiety and depression, stress, relationship issues, loss and bereavement and low self-esteem. It can also be used as a tool for personal or spiritual development, to help you understand yourself more deeply. No previous experience with music or art is needed, only a willingness to use these methods to explore your feelings and experiences.
Music and Imagery Case Studies
I have completed the first stage of training in Supportive Music and Imagery, and am currently looking for case study clients, to complete the second stage of training.
I am looking for two people who would like to experience Music and Imagery Therapy over a course of 10-12 sessions, of 60-75 minutes, weekly, via Zoom. As I am completing my training, these sessions will be offered at a much reduced rate (£20 per session).
Please contact me on [email protected] if you are interested in this opportunity.
No particular previous experience with music or art is needed in order to take part, only a willingness to explore using these methods.
